King Salmon River

King salmon1

The King Salmon is a primary tributary of the Nushagak River and an outstanding fly-fishing river. We begin well above timberline in an area rich with big game, Moose, Caribou, and Brown Bear. The views from adjacent ridges and bluffs are spectacular. The rafts descend through tree line and enter the boreal spruce forest. As logs and woody debris fill the channels the Rainbow fishery becomes strong. In mid July the sea run Dolly Varden arrive. This is one of my favorite rivers to take families with younger children on as the forest provides wind protection and plenty of firewood for nice camps. Youngsters and entry-level anglers find success and progress from Grayling to Char, Rainbow, and several species of Salmon over the course of the trip.
